"Me gusta esta gente, porque tiene una dignidad que se corresponde con el paisaje austero en el que transcurre su vida cotidiana"
Orson Welles

With its 94,200 square km, Castilla y León is the largest autonomous region in Spain and in Europe. It is located in the northwest area of the Iberian Peninsula.
Its orographic variety leads to great landscape diversity. The region of Castilla y León is located on a plateau at 800m above sea level.

Its geographical boundaries happen to be the highest areas in its orography. In the North, the Cantabrian Mountain Range is the natural boundary; in the East, the Iberian Mountain Range, and in the South, the central Range. Finally, in the Northwest, it borders on the Galician Massif. This particular territorial distribution causes the plateau to receive a large and complex river network that makes it the autonomous region with the greatest number of fluvial kilometres; in what is the Spanish part of the plateau, with the river Duero as the central axis of this network.
